EU & International Students

The Remote Learning Group (RLG) is home to a diverse online community of students, and we are committed to all of our students, including those from the European Union (EU) and from around the world. We value our place in the European and global creative, cultural and social environments, and we strongly believe that knowledge and skills are borderless and limitless, and we welcome students’ from around the world.

The RLG is an accredited Training Provider of the Accreditation Service of International Colleges (ASIC).

International Students require a Tier 4 (General) Visa to physically come to the United Kingdom (UK) to study a full-time course which is at level 3 or above. Courses which are below degree level (level 6) must have 15 hours per week of contact time, which is still a Student Loans Company (SLC) requirement for courses that are being studied remotely online via distance learning.

Age Requirement

The RLG’s BTEC Higher National courses are designed for students aged 18 or over, however in some exceptional cases younger students can be entered onto a Pearson BTEC Higher National programme.

English Language Requirement

Applicants whose first language is not English must show evidence of a good level of competence in both written and spoken English (including EU students). Furthermore, you may be required to complete an English Language Assessment Test to assess and determine your English language level.

The following qualifications (or their equivalents) are acceptable evidence as a minimum level of competence in English:

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English) with a minimum score of 51.
  • IELTS: Reading and Writing at 5.5.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English with a minimum C grade.
  • Internet Based Test TOEFL with a minimum score of 70.
  • O Level/GCSE/A-Level English Language Qualification at Pass grade.

Fees and Funding

From August 2021 onwards (Academic Year 2021-22) EU, European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals were no longer eligible for Home Tuition Fee status, and the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund from Student Finance England for courses starting from academic year 2021-22. Statement from the Minister of State for Universities on gov.uk

This change should not have affected those EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals benefitting from Citizens’ Rights under the EU Withdrawal Agreement, EEA European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Separation Agreement or Swiss Citizens’ Rights Agreement respectively. It should also not have applied to Irish nationals living in the UK or Ireland whose right to study and to access benefits and services has been preserved on a reciprocal basis for UK and Irish nationals under the Common Travel Area arrangement.

In addition, from 2021-22 Student Finance England no longer offers new enrolling EU students access to its Tuition Fee Loan, as this is connected to the current Home Tuition Fee rate. Government guidance on Student Finance currently states that if you’ve started a course on or after 1st August 2021, you must have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme to get Student Finance.  For most EU Students commencing their studies after October 2021, their Tuition Fee rates should be equivalent to the rates for International Students. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/student-support-in-england

EU & International Students Tuition Fees

At some UK higher educational institutions, the International Tuition Fee rate is considerably higher than the home rate. However, at the Remote Learning Group (RLG) we believe like the late, great ‘Nelson Mandela’ that “Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world” and we believe it should be easily accessible and affordable for all.

Please note that financial considerations and support apply only to Home Fee Status Students. Generally, at some UK higher educational institutions Tuition Fees are higher for EU and International Students, and such students must be able to demonstrate in advance that they can pay the Tuition Fee for their entire course.

All applicants must successfully pass the RLG’s Digital Identity Verification checks conducted with our online Certified Technology Provider: Trust I.D

To apply for a RLG course you are required to complete and submit a RLG Course Application Form accessible via the following link: RLG Course Application Form
